If you’re Irish, or would just like to be Irish for a day, you can break out the green on Sunday, March 19 and march in the Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade with your fellow Operators.

Afterwards, you can dance the night away to Irish music at a celebration at Local 793’s banquet hall, 2245 Speers Road in Oakville.

Local 793 is a sponsor of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and members and their families are welcome to join in the march. It would be great to see as many members as possible attend the event.

The parade starts at noon from the corner of Bloor and St. George Street near the St. George subway station. The route heads east on Bloor Street, turns south on Yonge Street, then turns west on Queen Street, finishing at the parade reviewing stand at Nathan Phillips Square.

Local 793 members and their families are asked to show up at 11 a.m. at St. George and Hoskin, just south of Bloor.

Easy access to the parade route from the TTC Subway can be made at the St. George, Bloor & Yonge, Wellesley, College, Dundas and Queen stations.

It takes about an hour and a half to march the parade route.

Special St. Patrick’s Day jackets will be distributed to Local 793 members at the start of the parade.

After the parade, a celebration will be held in the OE banquet hall. Doors open at 3 p.m. and the event runs until 10 p.m.

Socks in the Frying Pan, a multi-award-winning trio from County Clare on the West coast of Ireland, is the band for the evening. They will play a universal hub of traditional Irish music.

The band consists of Aodán Coyne on guitar and vocals and the accomplished Hayes brothers, Shane Hayes on accordion and Fiachra Hayes on fiddle & banjo.

The trio was named “New Band of the Year” by the Irish Music Association.

Irish schools of dance will also perform at the celebration and Irish-fare finger foods will be available, starting at 6 p.m.
The band starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door but members are encouraged to pre-order. There are 500 tickets being sold for the event. Tickets are $40 for the general public and $20 for members. Tickets are limited to two per member. Tickets for the event can be purchased from Local 793 business reps and area offices by cash or cheque. They can also be purchased by credit card by calling 905-469-9299 or 1-877-793-4863.
