
Joe Redshaw
President
Joe Redshaw is a third-generation member of Local 793. He started his mobile crane apprenticeship in 1981 and obtained his 339A hoisting certificate. Following completion of his apprenticeship, Joe worked as a journeyman for various contractors until 1987 when he started as a business rep with the union. In 1998, Joe became the union’s compensation and safety supervisor. He is currently director of social services and represents members in dealing with health and safety, workers’ compensation, Canada Disability Pension, Employment Insurance and WSIB matters and in 2020, Joe was also named Executive Director of OEBAC, the new benefits administration corporation for Local 793’s Life and Health and Group Legal benefits plans.
In 1996, Joe was elected recording-corresponding secretary. In 2001, he was elected as treasurer and in 2011 he was appointed as president. Joe has also been a union trustee and auditor, and has been a member of the insurance committee since 1996. He is chairman of the Jack Redshaw Scholarship Fund, named after his father. As well, from 1996 to 2005 Joe served as a trustee of Local 793’s Life and Health Benefits Trust Fund and was recently appointed to this position again. He has been a training trustee since 1995 and a pension trustee since 2005.
