The Ontario government has finally recognized that construction workers are essential and cannot work from home.

Therefore, effective Monday, May 10, all construction workers in the province will be eligible to book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination.

This positive news comes on the heels of Local 793 Business Manager Mike Gallagher’s letter to Premier Doug Ford, sent on April 7 urging his government to include construction workers as a priority group in Phase 2.

“We strongly urge you to correct this oversight immediately and include construction workers as a priority group in Phase 2 of Ontario’s vaccination plan so this essential and critical group of workers can continue supporting the people of the province in the safest manner possible,” Business Manager Gallagher wrote.

See the link below to read the letter in its entirety.

Local 793 encourages all members, regardless of geographic location within the province, to book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment effective on Monday, May 10. To access the Ontario vaccination website and to book an appointment, visit: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/

Throughout the pandemic, Local 793 has worked hard to stay on top of the rapidly evolving crisis and will continue to represent its members on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.
