“MY HOPE IS THAT LOCAL 793 BECOMES A LEADER IN HELPING MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.”– BUSINESS MANAGER, MIKE GALLAGHER

Members,

Local 793 and the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario are working in partnership with De Novo Treatment Centre to conduct research within the construction trades industry regarding addiction and suicide to better identify the causes behind these critical life issues.

Research shows that the rates of addiction and suicide in the construction industry are among the highest across all work sectors. When you add the current and lingering stresses from the COVID-19 pandemic, all of this can take a serious toll on your mental health.

In order to provide effective help, current research is needed to identify some of the main factors causing the high rates of suicide and addiction. To do this, we are asking for your help!

Please complete the survey using the link below. Your participation is voluntary, and all responses are strictly anonymous and confidential.
The survey results will help De Novo Treatment Centre to develop training tools for training centres, unions, and employers to better understand and address addiction and suicide among workers in the industry.

Please complete the survey as soon as you can. The survey ends on July 25, 2021. Please click the link below to start the survey.

To thank you for your participation, De Novo Treatment Centre has authorized 120 randomly selected survey respondents to receive a $50 gift card.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach Grace Tiersma at De Novo Treatment Centre. 1-800-933-6686 x242 or grace.tiersma@denovo.ca
Thank you in advance for completing this important survey.

Today, we commemorate the passing of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the Nunavut Act in 1993, which laid the groundwork for the territory’s eventual separation from the Northwest Territories in 1999.

Nunavut Day is a day for Nunavummiut to take pride in the accomplishments of their territory. The day was established to celebrate the unique culture that Nunavut brings to Canada and to recognize the importance of preserving that.

Local 793’s charter was expanded in 2014 by the General President of the IUOE to include Nunavut. Since then, Local 793 has continued to expand its presence in Nunavut where the local currently represents more than 900 members working at Baffinland Iron Ore Mines’ Mary River mine site in Baffin Island. Many of our members at the mine are Nunavummiut (those who inhabit or live in Nunavut).

Nunavut Day has particular significance to our Nunavummiut members and their families. Let us celebrate together by acknowledging the significant cultural, social and economic contributions of Nunavummiut to our country.
