OAKVILLE, ON. — SEPTEMBER 29, 2026 — Today, the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793 (IUOE Local 793) officially announces its endorsement of Sean O’Meara for election as Mayor of Oakville.
Representing more than 20,000 crane and heavy equipment operators across Ontario and with its head office in Oakville, the union cited O’Meara’s backing of critical infrastructure projects, his focus on economic growth and recognition of the need for more community involvement in political decision-making as reasons for the endorsement.
Local 793 Business Manager Mike Gallagher said, “Sean O’Meara has consistently proven that when he says he’ll get something done, he delivers. Our Union head office is in Oakville and many of our members live and work in the area, so it is very important that we have a mayor who understands the needs of working people.
“As a councillor, Sean was the driving force behind the new Wyecroft Road Bridge currently being built by Local 793 members – identifying the need for better cross-town connections and working tirelessly over years to secure the funding and get it built.
“That is exactly the kind of energetic leadership Oakville badly needs now and is why Local 793 has no hesitation in fully endorsing Sean O’Meara for mayor.”
Accepting the endorsement, Sean O’Meara emphasized he shared the Union’s vision of promoting economic development that generates local jobs and improves life for all residents.
He said, “I am grateful for the support and confidence of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793 and for their commitment to excellence in their work and advocacy for our community. I am committed to bringing the same level of energy and engagement to all of Oakville as we drive the kind of economic development and collaborative leadership and accountability that will move Oakville forward.”
Following today’s announcement, Local 793 will launch a member mobilization campaign running up to election day on October 26.
