A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Toronto found that among Delta variant cases of COVID-19 there was a 108 per cent increased risk of hospitalization, 235 per cent increased risk for ICU admission and 133 per cent increased risk of death compared to the original virus strain.
The study found that the reason the Delta variant didn’t devastate its way through Canada as it did in India was because the variant emerged as vaccination was ramping up.
This study analyzed more than 212,000 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario between February 7 – June 27, 2021.
