The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) has determined that protective eyewear is required to prevent droplet exposure for workers who work within 2 metres of each other, both indoors and outdoors. The use of protective eyewear is in addition to wearing appropriate masks to help keep yourself and others safe from getting and spreading COVID-19.
COVID-19 is transmitted through the air via infectious droplets, therefore, to reduce the risk of transmission, all points of entry need to be protected. With a mask, we protect two points of entry, the mouth and nose. A third point is the eyes.
KN95 and N95 masks are the approved facial coverings for protection against COVID-19, including the Omicron variant. Woven cloth masks and one layers masks offer the least amount of protection because they do not effectively filter out contagious particles.
Your Union is in the process of delivering one box of 10 KN95 masks to all members in good standing. The KN95 masks should arrive to members’ homes via mail by the end of January. The quality of the mask you wear is important, and Local 793 wants to help protect you and your family during this current outbreak.
