Remembrance Day is especially poignant for Local 793 members who joined the Union after serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Among them are Brother Mitchell Amos, an Infantry Soldier, and Brother Collin McKinnon, a Weapons Technician. Both served in the 1st Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment, where they learned the values they continue to carry into their work today.

Now operating a tower crane for Pomerleau, Brother McKinnon remembers the soldiers he served with, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.

He said, “I traded in my uniform for a hard hat, but the values are the same – trust, teamwork, and looking out for the person next to you.”

“Every November 11 I take a quiet minute to be thankful for the freedom to do what I do. To make good money, raise my family, and live in peace. I get to go home to an amazing wife and two little girls running and screaming ‘Daddoe!’ when I get through that door. That’s what gives my life purpose.”

Brother Amos, now a mobile crane operator for Roc Corporation Crane Rental, echoes that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of honouring all who have served.

“Remembrance Day is a chance to honour Canadians from all walks of life who have served our nation in war. Most importantly, it’s a solemn reminder of the over 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. They stepped up when our country needed them most. May we never forget their sacrifices.”

This Remembrance Day, Local 793 proudly honours our veterans and all those who have fought so that we may be free.

Lest we forget.
