Beginning January 1, two important amendments to Ontario Regulation 213/91 (Construction Projects) will come into effect, both of which directly impact the health and safety of Local 793 members.
Key Changes
- Mandatory Defibrillators:
-
- Projects that regularly employ 20 or more workers for a period of three months or longer will now be required to have a Health Canada–licensed defibrillator readily available on site.
-
- Enhanced Washroom Facility Requirements:
- Constructors must maintain a record of washroom servicing, including all cleaning and sanitizing activities, for the previous six months or for the duration of the project, whichever is shorter.
Local 793 supports the new defibrillator requirement and remains optimistic that constructors of projects which don’t meet the requirement thresholds of the new provision will nevertheless follow suit and make defibrillators available on smaller, shorter-duration projects as well.
