Local 793 Operating Engineers are a big part of the Gardiner Expressway rehabilitation project in Toronto, which sees critical work being done on the more than 60-year-old highway that is reaching the end of its service life.
Performing demolition work for Grascan Construction Ltd., between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue, are 37-year Local 793 member Tony Carreira and 14-year member Franco Serevello. Brother Tony and Brother Frank are showing their operating skills on this stretch of the project, as work is complex due to the elevated and narrow roadway.
The project is part two of the City of Toronto’s six-part Strategic Rehabilitation Plan, which addresses the rehabilitation of the expressway, extending from Highway 427 to the eastern limit at the Don Valley Parkway (DVP).
