Getting on and off construction equipment may seem simple, but it’s one of the most common ways operators get injured. In fact, the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) reports that over 25% of equipment-related injuries happen during mounting or dismounting.
To reduce the risk of injury, always use the three-point contact method. This means always keeping three points of contact with the equipment, either two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand. These three points form a triangle that provides balance and stability.
To raise awareness and improve workplace safety, IHSA is leading Falls Awareness Week from May 5 to 9, 2025. IUOE Local 793 supports this initiative and remains committed to protecting every worker building and maintaining Ontario.
