Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that all “core” federal public servants would be required to be fully vaccinated by October 30. This mandate affects the RCMP, Correctional Service of Canada, Canada Border Services and nearly 80 more federal departments and agencies along with any federal contractors. Unvaccinated or employees who fail to disclose their vaccination status will be prohibited from working either in person or remotely and placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced that as of October 30, all travellers and employers in federally regulated air, rail and marine transportation sectors would be required to be fully vaccinated.
Implementing this mandate was at the top of Trudeau’s government post-election to-do list. The federal government also strongly encourages federally regulated sectors (banking, telecommunications, and crown corporations) to mirror their vaccination policy.
