Temporary Work At Baffinland Iron Mines

SPECIAL NOTICE: Temporary Work Available At Baffinland

Local 793 is pleased to announce that effective immediately, we will be dispatching qualified workers to fill temporary employment positions at Baffinland’s Mary River Mine in Baffin Island, Nunavut.

The positions range from heavy equipment and crane operators, to ore haul truck drivers and heavy truck mechanics, to skilled trade workers (eg. Welders and millwrights) and warehouse technicians.

Highlights of working at Mary River mine:
• Fly-in/fly-out camp (Montreal, Iqaluit, and North Baffin communities marshalling points)
• Travel allowance (and if applicable Northern allowance)
• Temporary work (3-to-6 work weeks average)
• 12-hour shifts
• Total package hourly rates (range: $36.53 to $53.88)

Please Note: The Partnership Collective Agreement between the Union and Baffinland recognizes and respects that Baffinland is party to an Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) that covers its mining operations.

The IIBA provides that Inuit must have the opportunity for equatable and meaningful participation in Baffinland’s work at the mine.  Therefore, Baffinland’s hiring priority will be given to beneficiaries under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA) from Pond Inlet, Igloolik, Clyde River, Hall Beach and Arctic Bay and Iqaluit, followed by residents from other Baffin region communities and then to all other NLCA beneficiaries.
