Local 793 Director of Organizing Kyle Schutte and Organizer Chad Willet joined more than 1,000 organizers from across North America at the second annual International Union of Operating Engineers Organizing Conference in Crosby, Texas. The conference focused on strategy, solidarity, and strengthening our Locals. It also addressed the challenges faced by our operating engineers and emphasized on sharpening the tools we need to organize, grow, and protect what workers have fought hard to build.

We’re excited to share that OETIO has added 12 Smartboards, 30 instructor laptops, and 125 student tablets to our classrooms and tailgate training areas, which are all made possible through the Ontario Skills Development Fund (SDF)! This investment enhances the learning experience, reduces paper use, and ensures our apprentices are equipped to thrive and succeed in the classroom.

The International Union of Operating Engineers has launched a new app for members who want to sign up for training at the International Training and Education Center in Crosby, Texas.
The user-friendly IUOE ITEC Training app will allow members to search and sign up for courses and manage their union and training activities in one secure location on their mobile phone.
As a Local 793 member in good standing accepted to a course, your training, airfare, airport transfers to and from the Training Center, meals, and accommodation expenses are fully covered.
Registration for classes through the ITEC must be completed on its website or app.

Just north of Barrie, the steel frame of the main building is rising fast, thanks to the hard work of our Brothers on site. Among them are Brent and Taite MacDonald, a proud father and son from Oro-Medonte. Their dedication shows the legacy of operating engineers passed from one generation to the next. Brother Jeff Owen is also at the site as the crane operator, helping build the future home of OETIO and Local 793.
The training centre remains on track to open late next year.
