Local 793 Director of Organizing Kyle Schutte and Organizer Chad Willet joined more than 1,000 organizers from across North America at the second annual International Union of Operating Engineers Organizing Conference in Crosby, Texas. The conference focused on strategy, solidarity, and strengthening our Locals. It also addressed the challenges faced by our operating engineers and emphasized on sharpening the tools we need to organize, grow, and protect what workers have fought hard to build.

The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) is proud to once again welcome inspectors from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) to its Oakville campus for a comprehensive training session focused on job site compliance and safety inspections. The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) is proud to once again welcome inspectors from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) to its Oakville campus for a comprehensive training session focused on job site compliance and safety inspections.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensure that industry standards are met and proper job site compliance is maintained to decrease workplace accidents.

OETIO extends its sincere thanks to the MLITSD for its continued trust and partnership and looks forward to building on this vital work to strengthen Ontario’s safety standards through high-quality training and education.

  Members again came out in large numbers for the Local 793 Sarnia Members Golf Tournament at the Widder Station Golf Club in Thedford on Saturday Organized by Southwest Ontario Area Supervisor Steve Booze, members were joined on the sun-kissed fairways by President Dave Turple and Executive Board members Virgil Nosè, Justin O’Neill, Jeff Hewitt and Paul Knight. Many thanks to all our members for making this year’s event such a success!

We’re excited to share that OETIO has added 12 Smartboards, 30 instructor laptops, and 125 student tablets to our classrooms and tailgate training areas, which are all made possible through the Ontario Skills Development Fund (SDF)! This investment enhances the learning experience, reduces paper use, and ensures our apprentices are equipped to thrive and succeed in the classroom.

The International Union of Operating Engineers has launched a new app for members who want to sign up for training at the International Training and Education Center in Crosby, Texas.

The user-friendly IUOE ITEC Training app will allow members to search and sign up for courses and manage their union and training activities in one secure location on their mobile phone.

As a Local 793 member in good standing accepted to a course, your training, airfare, airport transfers to and from the Training Center, meals, and accommodation expenses are fully covered.

Registration for classes through the ITEC must be completed on its website or app.

Brothers Carlos Ganhao (Steward), Japheteh Tesfagiorgis (Apprentice), Daniel Sahadeo (Mobile Crane Operator), with Business Rep Brendan Ryan. Brother Andreas Tsangaris is also at the site operating the excavator. Thank you for all that you do! This subway project will have 15 stations connecting to the other transit lines across the city and is expected to be completed by 2031.
