Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) staff and IUOE Local 793 Business Manager Mike Gallagher hosted the Honourable Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges & Universities and MPP for Simcoe North, for a tour of the OETIO Morrisburg campus on Tuesday.
The tour showcased OETIO’s training facilities and outdoor sites while meeting enrolled students who shared their experience receiving this critical training to kick-start their careers in the skilled trades.
Minister Dunlop got to try out the CAT Dozer Simulator and jumped into the operator seat of a Volvo excavator purchased with the assistance of the Provincial Apprenticeship Capital Grant (ACG). She then visited the Indigenous pre-apprentice HEO class performing field exercises in the dome and a group of HEO apprentices completing their practical tractor loader backhoe (TLB) training. The Minister also observed Inuit students in the Loader Haul Truck program and a Level 2/3 Tower Crane course.
The visit was an opportunity to share the excitement of this industry and the importance of quality education and training in producing the next generation of skilled trades workers.
