Local 793 Member On-Site at Confederation Line LRT Extension Project in Ottawa

Brother Billy-Ray Vivarais operates an 8090RT Link-Belt crane on-site at Lincoln Fields station in Ottawa for the Confederation Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension project. He is stripping and loading forms onto floating concrete slabs for new rails. Stage 2 of the Confederation Line LRT extensions is expected to take approximately 14,000 cars off the road to help to relieve traffic congestion during peak hours and reduce carbon emissions by 155,000 tonnes over 25 years. July 9th marks the passing of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act and the Nunavut Act, enabling the Inuit to independently govern this region (formerly part of the Northwest Territories). Today, please join us in celebrating by acknowledging Nunavummiut’s significant cultural, social, and economic contributions to our country.

Local 793 Members Work on QEW Road Sign Install

Brothers Jeff Owen, mobile crane operator, and Jackson Huibers, apprentice, install an overhead road sign on the eastbound Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW). Three lanes on the QEW, from Dixie Road to West Mall Bridge, were closed for the installation. Local 793 operators and employers should prepare beforehand, recognize symptoms of heat-related illnesses and know how to treat them when problems arise.
